박현주| Hyujoo Park (b. 1968, South Korea)
박현주 작가는 빛을 중심으로 독특한 회화적 작업을 한다. 그의 작업은 궁극적으로 회화적 영역의 확장이다. 일본에서 재료기법을 전공하면서 템페라화를 연구한 작가는 시각적 일루전과 평면성에 관련하여 지속적으로 새로운 회화를 모색하는 작업을 한다. 그가 사용하는 빛은 테크놀로지를 활용한 빛이 아니라, 잘 연마시킨 금박(Gold Leaf)에서 비롯되는 빛이다. 중세 성상화(Icon)의 금박 기법에서의 빛의 일루전과 반사 효과를 이용하여 시각적인 환영을 만드는데, 평면 캔버스 작업은 물론, 평면을 넘어 ‘회화적 오브제(Plane Object)’ 형식으로 귀결되면서 주요 미술관들과 소장가들에게 크게 주목을 받고 있다.
Park Hyunjoo, who has demonstrated a unique painting methodology centered on the light. Her work is ultimately an expansion of the painting’s realm. The artist who has studied tempera while majoring in material techniques in Japan is constantly looking for a new realm of painting related to visual illusions and planarity. The light she creates is not a result of technology but from well-polished gold leaves. Through the illusion and reflection of the light in a gilt technique from the medieval Icon, a visual illusion is created not only in the works of flat canvas but also in the form of 'Plane Object' beyond two-dimension, which has attracted a great deal of attention from many museums and collectors
